Engineering Superintendent for Angola LNG Contract - SVITZER, Soyo, Angola
SVITZER is looking for an experienced Engineering Superintendent for the startup and ongoing management of towage operations in Angola.

The position will be based in Soyo and reports to the Country Manager for Angola.

Responsibilities:

* Cost effective maintenance and repair of the Soyo fleet.
* Provision of timely advice to the Country Manager of any matter likely to affect the availability of any vessel in the fleet for duty, including timely communication with line and functional supervisors on emergent issues affecting scope and cost of repair tasks
* Liaison and supervision of vessel Chief Engineers
* Preparation of docking, class surveys, maintenance and repair budgets, and monitoring of expenditure, preparation of docking specifications and reports
* Recruitment, selection and training of vessel Engineers in consultation with the Country Manager and other relevant functional managers in accordance with company guidelines
* Ensure onboard compliance with company policies in regards to planned maintenance, QA and safe technical operation of the fleet
* Participation and strict compliance with all Health, Safety, & Environment rules, regulations, company policies and processes when/where applicable, in particular with regard to the environment
* Liaison and Inventory control and negotiation with local suppliers & contactors over the cost, availability and supply of stores and spare parts
* Development, implementation, operation and monitoring of PMS, incorporating deck and engine room tasks for all Soyo fleet vessels
* Other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time, including provide coverage for other Management positions during periods of absence as delegated by the Country Manager

Qualifications and Experience required:

* Class 1 Motor Certificate of Competency preferred.
* Good diagnostic skills
* Budget formulation, monitoring and cost management skills
* Effective communication skills, including negotiation and dispute handling skills in English and preferably also in Portuguese
* Excellent prioritization and time management skills with the ability to delegate tasks as required
* Computer literacy in Word, Excel and MS Project
* High level of awareness of HSQE
* Experience with and knowledge of, modern marine technology such coating systems, medium speed engines, thruster’s and winch installations

Essential Needs:

* Similar operational experience, ideally within small vessel sector (towage and/or offshore)
* Computer literacy
* A commitment to and high degree of awareness of Quality and HS&E issues
* In-depth knowledge of the maritime industry
* Strong communication and people skills

* Work well under pressure

Recommends the removal of employees where there has been persistent poor performance, misconduct or unethical behaviour. Recommends promotions where merited.
