Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA): Associate Program Officer
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2006 to work with African governments, farmers, donors, NGOs and the private sector to reduce hunger and poverty in Africa through agricultural development targeted at resource poor farmers.AGRA has its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and an office in Accra, Ghana.
AGRA is seeking to recruit an exceptional and experienced individual to fill the position of Associate Program Officer.
This is a senior national staff position which will be based in Nairobi and report to the Vice President, Policy and Partnerships.
The Associate Program Officer will lead work on AGRA's engagement with the civil society, organize national and regional dialogues, monitor and evaluate the implementation of strategic partnerships, and lead the planning and implementation of the Africa Green Revolution Forum with partners and stakeholders.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Developing a database of AGRA partners and developing and maintaining strong working relationships with relevant organizations and individuals;
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of AGRA partnerships;
Investigating, evaluating and recommending actions on potential partnership proposal requests;
Implementing a detailed organizational plan, as well as engaging with international, national and regional partners on the design and organization of the Africa Green Revolution Forum;
Working with partners and AGRA Management to formulate themes for the Forum, as well as securing sponsorships for the Forum;
Working with partners, public relations and media firms to generate wide publicity and coverage for the Forum;
Developing an AGRA-wide plan for engagement with civil society organizations; and
Supporting AGRA programs in effective engagement with civil society organizations on the Green Revolution and soliciting their inputs in shaping and informing the work of AGRA.
Key Qualifications
A Masters degree in Developmental Studies e.g. Rural Development, Gender and Development, Anthropology, Agricultural Development etc;
At least 3 years experience in advocacy for agriculture with African governments, regional bodies and public-private alliances;
Strong experience in working with civil society organizations;
Ability to cultivate strategic internal and external relations and network in a multicultural environment-Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to organize high-level events;
Excellent oral, written and reporting communication skills; and
Excellent knowledge of English with working knowledge of French as an added advantage.
