The company
• CIS is established as a business unit in the APMM Group with a mandate to invest and grow in Container Inland Services, building on an arm’s length relationships with Group customers and growing its 3rd party business. CIS in SSA comprises 25+ individual entities operating in each their local markets.
• The Senegal Cluster includes Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea Bissau, Gambia and the Cape Verde and is among the 3 largest Clusters in SSA. Activities include stevedoring, inland terminals/depots, EMR and trucking.
General responsibility
• Based in Dakar and reporting to the Regional Director of Container Inland Services SSA, the Senegal Country Cluster Manager (CCM) is responsible for the business strategy and profitable growth of the portfolio of companies, hereunder ensure strategic fit of all entities and recommend expansion or divestments as appropriate, and fully accountable for the P&L. In this leadership role, the CCM drives performance and ensures targets & standards for service quality are met. The CCM steers organizational focus on client relationships as well as relationships with other stakeholders. The CMM leads the organization through change and delivers business results within the organizational culture and values of the APMM Group.
Specific objectives of the position
• Ensure a profitable, high-performance organisation delivering on financial targets as well as non-financial objectives.
• Drive a commercial culture within the Cluster including a clear organisational understanding of profit drivers, customer focus and a solid approach to sales management.
• Ensure competitive position of Cluster companies and build the market presence and the reputation of the company by delivering profitable growth within existing and new products and services.
• Drive the changes the organization goes through with an increasingly competitive market and an increasing part of its growth coming from 3rd party customers.
• Drive innovation initiatives and cost efficiency within the Cluster.
• Manage the company and entity structure that best delivers the targets, including serving on boards where relevant, and be responsible for corporate governance.
• Recruitment, development and coaching of senior management team members.
• Ensure Health & Safety performance within the Company, achieving conformance with applicable HSSE legislation and policy.
• Build high employee engagement across all levels, locations and job functions.
• Ensure optimum blue collar and union interaction.

Functional Characteristics
The ideal candidate has:
• Understanding of management and operations of container inland terminals/depots, stevedoring, container maintenance & repair and trucking.
• Insight in the Container Shipping Industry and related financial drivers
• Broad experience with structured approach to customer relationship management and business development
• Understanding of labor law and industrial relations
• Insight in HSSE Legislation and practices
Experience
The ideal candidate has previously:
• Successfully delivered on set targets in dynamic and changing environments
• Has developed new business on the back of existing investments and capabilities
• Worked in the container shipping and/or services industry
• Worked in West Africa or other African countries
• Worked in a mix of blue and white collar companies
Language needed in position English in speech and writing, French desirable
