Africa Rice Center (WARDA) is an association of African member states and one of the 15 international Centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural research (CGIAR). WARDA’s mission is to contribute to poverty alleviation and food security in Africa, through research, development and partnership activities aimed at increasing the productivity and profitability of the rice sector in ways that ensure the sustainability of the farming environment. WARDA is temporarily headquartered in Cotonou, Benin.

Africa Rice Center (WARDA) is seeking two (2) highly qualified Statistics and
Programming Research Assistants, one to be based at Cotonou, BENIN and the other at
Dares Es Salam, TANZANIA.
Position: STATISTICS AND PROGRAMMING

RESEARCH ASSISTANTS (02)
Duty Station: Cotonou, BENIN and Dares Es Salam, TANZANIA
Category: GSS
Under the general supervision of the Head of Program and the direct supervision of the
Statistics Component Coordinator of the Emergency Rice Initiative Project, the research
assistant will have the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:
• To assist the Project Coordinator in the monitoring and technical support for the statistical
surveys presently ongoing in different countries,
• To assist the Project Coordinator in processing, cleaning, analyzing and publishing
regional synthesis data derived from the statistical surveys using statistical and
econometric software (STATA, SAS and SPSS),
• To develop a reliable archiving and mapping system for these regional statistical data,
• To design and update Web pages to publish the synthesis data derived from the statistic
surveys conducted in the countries using Web technologies and Geographical Information
System software such as JavaScript and Google map API,
• To respond to requests for statistical information from various partners,
• Any other duty deemed necessary.


2)Profile and experience
• A Masters Degree or equivalence in Statistics-Programming,
• Knowledge of usual programming languages, XML, SQL, HTML, JAVA SCRIPT, etc…
• Knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS) in particular Google Map API and
Arc/View software,
• Good capacity in data analysis using statistical and econometric data,
• Good knowledge in database management and computer tools (Excel, Access, etc.),
• Good mastering of French and working knowledge of English. A working experience in
both languages would be an asset,
• Capacity to work under a minimum of supervision and in a multi-cultural and
multidisciplinary environment,
• An experience in an international institution would be an asset,
• To be innovative and able to take initiatives,
• To have a good capacity of communication and adaptation to changes.
